Rachel Rees RM

My name is Rachel, and I practice on Team 3 at The Midwifery Group. Midwifery is to me social justice in medicine: supporting diverse families to birth with autonomy and informed choice, while providing excellent evidence-based health care.

I have been a Registered Midwife since 2011 following completion of the UBC midwifery program. I was first drawn into the world of midwifery during an undergraduate degree in Women’s Studies and Anthropology where I studied maternal health, reproductive rights, and cross-cultural study of maternity care; my intellectual fire was stoked. My background in support work for at-risk youth led to practising as a doula for seven years and opened my eyes and my heart to a love of attending births.

When I am not baby-catching, I strive for radical self-care to balance the midwife lifestyle – I love to be outside, ride my bike, practise yoga, and play in the ocean.
