Julia de Montigny RM, She/Her
I love working with all the wonderful midwives, allied healthcare providers, and staff at The Midwifery Group. I am constantly humbled by the strength and courage of our clients; sometimes I still need to pinch myself that bearing witness to that power is my job! I completed my training to become a midwife at UBC. So far, I have welcomed babies earthside across the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, Musqueam, and Lekwungen nations.
Before my life as a midwife, I was a geography teacher at a CEGEP in Montreal or Tiohtià:ke. I still carry my passion for education and research with me so that you feel well-informed and supported in your decisions. And if there’s ever a dull moment, I’ll gladly nerd out about geography with you!
I am a descendant of settlers of Hungarian, French, and British heritage, and come from a long line of feminists, teachers, and caretakers. I have been working and volunteering in all kinds of community, research, education, and health settings my whole life. My approach to clinical care is rooted in harm reduction and social and reproductive justice, and I credit my past for keeping me tethered to those guiding principles. I am a proud queer parent and am committed to making all families feel welcome at TMG.
In my spare time you can find me in my community garden, running along the seawall, practicing for my choir, or I’m probably laughing with my kiddo. Étant Québecoise, sachez que je serais heureuse de travailler avec vous en français. J'ai hâte de vous rencontrer! Thank you for trusting me with your care.
