Julia de Montigny RM, She/Her

What an absolute honour it is to be joining the wonderful midwives, allied health care providers and staff at The Midwifery Group. I am constantly humbled by the strength and courage of our clients; sometimes I still need to pinch myself that bearing witness to that power is my job! I completed my training to become a midwife at UBC. So far, I have welcomed babies earthside across the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, Musqueam, and Lekwungen nations.

Before my life as a midwife, I was a geography teacher at a CEGEP in Montreal (Tiohtià:ke). While there are many differences between what I did before and what I do now, I still carry that passion for education and research with me as a midwife so that you feel well informed and supported in your decisions. And if there’s ever a dull moment in your care, know that I’ll gladly nerd out about geography with you! I am a descendent of settlers of Hungarian, French and British heritage, and come from a long line of feminists, caretakers, and rule-breakers. I have been working and volunteering in all sorts of community, research, education, and health settings my whole life. I love that midwifery gives me the opportunity to connect people with community.

My personal approach to clinical care is rooted in harm reduction, and social and reproductive justice, and I credit my past for keeping me tethered to those guiding principles. Otherwise, things I do to keep me nourished include reading and dancing with my very charming toddler, baking elaborate treats, running, biking, and working on a good puzzle. Étant Québecoise, sachez que je serais heureuse de travailler avec vous en français. J'ai hâte de vous rencontrer! Thank you for trusting me with your care.
