Sophie Maudslay RM (She/Her) RM
My journey into midwifery was one of personal growth, moving from the corporate sector into
healthcare. Having qualified as a midwife in the UK, I then worked in a very busy hospital on the
outskirts of London; providing a broad spectrum of care, in a demanding environment to both low
and high risk cases. Recently I completed the Internationally Educated Midwives Bridging Program
in 2020. Whilst challenging, I thoroughly enjoyed the course and I am a grateful to have finally
fulfilled my dream of becoming a Canadian midwife.
The midwifery model practised in Canada is one that I particularly love, as it allows me the time to
get to know clients and build meaningful relationships. This creates continuity of care and trust
which then enables me to provide the best possible care for each individual.
My passion is to ensure clients have the optimum experience of pregnancy and childbirth. Whilst
recognising that this is a unique experience for each person, I strive to empower clients to feel fully
informed and compassionately supported in all their choices. Being part of families transition into
parenthood is a huge privilege and one that I thoroughly enjoy participating in.
I also hold a BA in Politics and International Relations from the University of Reading, UK, covering
modules such a feminism and social justice. This broadened my world view and perspective. In
addition, I am currently completing an MSc in Disaster Healthcare. I hope to undertake
humanitarian aid work in the future, as I am committed to making a beneficial difference to peoples
lives and providing professional healthcare to all service users.
Outside of work I love to travel to other countries and explore different cultures and languages.
When I’m not a work I can be found exercising, enjoying the great outdoors and socialising. I’m
friendly and approachable and am very much looking forward to meeting all clients within Team 1
at The Midwifery Group.
